Community Care

Mutual Aid Requests

We are not a mutual aid organization and are currently limited to raising awareness for mutual aid needs.

This is not an exhaustive list. Needs change. If you can offer support, please reach out directly using the contact on each request. If you have a request, we will update our intake form in December.

What is mutual aid?

Mutual aid is not charity. It is not a transaction. It is not something you do once when you feel guilty enough. It is a Black liberation strategy rooted in the understanding that our survival has always been collective. After enslavement, when the state refused to recognize Black people as deserving of financial infrastructure, we built our own. Burial societies. Credit unions. Rotating savings pools. Community care networks. We did not wait for permission or for institutions to show up for us. We showed up for each other.

Here is what we also teach: mutual aid is not only about money. Your time is a resource. Your attention is a resource. Your skills are a resource. Your ability to make a phone call, write a cover letter, sit with someone in a waiting room, or navigate a system on behalf of someone who does not have the bandwidth right now: all of that is redistribution.

This month we are expanding our care practice beyond the financial. If you have time or talent to offer, email community@healyourwayforward.org and let us know if you can offer any of the following:

  • Resume writing or job application support for community members navigating employment transitions.
  • Check-ins for people on this list who are in crisis and just need someone to show up, ask how they are doing, and listen without trying to fix it.
  • Help connecting people to community support services, food resources, housing support, medical navigation, or disability advocacy in their area.

We will match you directly with someone who needs what you have. No application. No interview. Just care meeting need.

Latoya

Community Sibling

After 24 years living with over 25 conditions including EDS, Lyme disease, degenerative disc disease, and thyroid cancer, the American healthcare system has drained every resource Latoya has built trying to simply function. This fund exists to create the stability needed to actually heal, covering mortgage, out-of-pocket medical care, specialized treatments, and mental health support.

Non-monetary support:

Email community@healyourwayforward.org to offer support outside of monetary considerations: a phone call, skill support, or encouragement. If you or someone you know is buying or selling a home, send them Latoya's way.

EducationSeptember 2026

Abya

Community Sibling

Abya was raised in Oklahoma to become a missionary. Their Puerto Rican and Mexican roots were stripped away in the name of religious assimilation. They were denied access to public education and limited to church-based schooling, leaving them without a formal diploma for years. Despite that, Abya earned their HISET with strong scores and now has two life goals: go to college and reconnect with their island home, Puerto Rico. Abya needs immediate financial support to pursue education and cultural reconnection after a lifetime of enforced assimilation.

Non-monetary support:

Email community@healyourwayforward.org to offer support outside of monetary considerations: a phone call, skill support, or encouragement.

Brandy

Community Sibling

Brandy wants to take a year to divest from work and invest in rest. As a millennial Black woman, she is tired. Not the kind of tired that a weekend fixes, the kind of tired that comes from generations of being required to produce, perform, and push through. She is choosing rest as resistance and needs support to make that possible.
